Brain Dance

Learn about the Brain Dance, a dynamic and innovative movement framework originally developed by Anne Green Gilbert in her book Brain-Compatible Dance Education. The Brain Dance incorporates eight fundamental developmental movement patterns that are designed to enhance physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being. These patterns are based on the natural movement progression that infants go through in their first year of life, which are crucial for establishing neurological connections.

By engaging in these eight simple steps through dance, students can improve their coordination, focus, and sensory integration. Each step of the Brain Dance—breath, tactile, core-distal, head-tail, upper-lower, body-side, cross-lateral, and vestibular—serves to activate different parts of the brain and body, promoting a holistic approach to learning and development.

Not only does the Brain Dance help students connect with their minds and bodies, but it also provides a creative and enjoyable way to foster social skills, reduce stress, and boost overall mental health. Whether used in educational settings, therapeutic practices, or personal development routines, the Brain Dance offers a versatile tool for enhancing the mind-body connection and supporting lifelong learning.
