The Earth without art is just “Eh”

April is Earth Month! Check out these ideas!

There are endless opportunities to foster a deeper connection with the Earth while igniting creativity and environmental understanding in your students. Use the following ideas to take your students on a journey through the arts to celebrate Earth Month and inspire stewardship of our precious planet.

Ideas for Dancing About the Earth

Take your dancers outside! There is no better way to connect with the Earth than to get outside and move in nature. Try dancing through a plant’s life-cycle, use leaves to inspire metaphors and movement, or explore Utah’s different environments though dance!

Connecting with the Earth Through Drama

Just like your students, the Earth is a moving and ever-changing force! Explore Earth’s systems with tableaus, become Wonder Walkers by acting out metaphors of Earth’s features, or engage in this fun Readers’ Theater about celebrating Earth Day!

Making Music and Learning Science

Do your students know that Earth Day began with music? Like the Earth, music provides both structure and creative beauty. Explore changes in Earth’s surface through designing musical models, or learn about taking care of the Earth by recycling with the story of Ada’s Violin.

Appreciating the Beauty of the Earth Through Visual Arts

Earth month is a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for our planet's beauty and the importance of environmental stewardship. Use recycled and recyclable materials to learn about the umbrella effect in freshwater ecosystems, create origami butterfly feeders, or learn about and from the resourcefulness of the Plains Indians when hunting the Great American Bison.
